Shadow Mountain Lake Recreation
Shadow Mountain Lake connects to Grand Lake through a short navigable channel, creating a combined paddling area of nearly 1,900 acres. Kayaking, fishing (lake trout, kokanee salmon, rainbow trout), and ice fishing in winter are the primary activities on the lake.
The Shadow Mountain Trail climbs from the lake's southern end to a fire lookout with panoramic views of both Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake — an excellent half-day hike from your cabin.

The Two Properties Closest to the Water
The Lakeside Cabin sits roughly 30 feet above Shadow Mountain Lake on Lakeshore Drive, with panoramic water views toward Baldy Peak, a deck fire pit and a porch swing. It sleeps 12 across five bedrooms and three bathrooms, with a pool table, a natural gas grill and a smoker.
The Mid-Century Modern cabin also looks out over Shadow Mountain Lake and the mountains. It sleeps 11, was built in 1972 and fully remodelled in 2022, and has a hot tub and a game room with ping pong, foosball and more than sixty arcade games.
One Practical Note on Access
The Lakeside Cabin's driveway is steep. In summer that is unremarkable; between roughly November and April a 4WD or AWD vehicle is the sensible choice rather than an optional upgrade.
Groups arriving in winter from out of state should specify that when booking a rental car, since the default assignment is rarely what the driveway wants.
Shadow Mountain and Grand Lake Together
The two lakes sit adjacent to one another, which gives the area more water than most Colorado mountain towns. Kayaking, paddleboarding and fishing are available on both, and the marina in Grand Lake runs boat rentals through the summer.
The western entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is about five minutes from both properties, so a day on the water and a day in the park require no relocation.
