Grand County Overview

Grand County encompasses 1,870 square miles of Colorado mountain terrain — Rocky Mountain National Park's western half, the Arapaho National Recreation Area and its three major lakes, Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forest, and the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Grand Lake sits at the northern end of the county, directly adjacent to RMNP.

The county's outdoor recreation profile is exceptional year-round: summer RMNP hiking and mountain lake recreation; fall aspen color and elk rut; winter snowmobiling on 300+ miles of trails; and spring fishing as the lakes open.

Grand County's Towns

Grand Lake is the county's tourism hub for RMNP and snowmobiling. Granby (15 minutes south) is the county's commercial center with grocery stores, medical services, and Granby Ranch ski area. Winter Park (45 minutes south) is the county's major ski resort. Hot Sulphur Springs (30 minutes south) is the county seat and a quieter option with natural hot springs.

Staying in Grand Lake places you at the county's northern anchor, closest to RMNP and the snowmobile trail network — the ideal base for a Grand County outdoor trip.

Grand Lake Within the County

Grand County covers a large stretch of Colorado's western slope, and Grand Lake sits at its northern end against the national park boundary. That position is what distinguishes it from the county's other towns — the park entrance is five minutes from the cabins rather than a drive.

Winter Park lies to the south along the same US-40 corridor, with Fraser and Granby between. A group staying in Grand Lake reaches all of them within an hour without changing base.

One Base for the Whole County

Because the towns sit along a single road, Grand Lake works as a base for the wider county rather than only for itself. The drive south passes each in turn, so a day elsewhere in the county does not mean a complicated route.

The trade-off runs the other way too: staying further south puts you closer to the ski terrain but adds thirty to forty minutes to every trip into the national park.

The Cabins

The Lakeview Lodge and Pickleball Lodge each sleep 16; the Lakeside Cabin sleeps 12 and the Mid-Mod Cabin 11. Each has a private hot tub, a dedicated game room and a full kitchen, and all four are owned and managed by the same family.

Groups beyond sixteen book two properties for the same dates, which reaches 32 across the two lodges and 55 across all four. Call or text 303-588-4472 to discuss which combination fits.
