The Grand County Snowmobile Trail Network
Grand Lake connects to the Grand County snowmobile trail network — over 300 miles of trails maintained throughout winter. The system extends from Grand Lake to Granby, Fraser, Tabernash, and Winter Park, covering a wide range of terrain from groomed highway-style trails to mountain backcountry routes.
Trail access from Grand Lake begins at the edge of town. Most rental operations can advise on current trail conditions and recommended routes for your experience level. The Grand Lake Snowmobile Club maintains the trails and produces seasonal trail maps available at local shops.
Snowmobile Rentals and Guided Tours
Several snowmobile rental operations in Grand Lake offer equipment for solo riders, couples, and large groups. Two-up sleds (designed to carry a passenger) are available for those who want to ride together. Guided tours are ideal for first-time riders — a guide leads your group on the trails while you focus on riding rather than navigation.
Rental packages typically include the sled, helmet, and trail fuel. Outerwear (insulated snow pants, waterproof gloves, balaclava) is your responsibility — some shops rent gear. Book rentals in advance for holiday weekends as equipment is limited.
After the Ride: Back to the Cabin
A full day of snowmobiling at high elevation is physically demanding — the combination of cold air, vibration, and concentration is tiring in a way that most people underestimate. Coming back to a fully equipped luxury cabin with a private hot tub is one of the best parts of a Grand Lake snowmobile trip.
