Summer Packing List (June–August)
Layers are non-negotiable in summer. Grand Lake mornings and evenings are consistently cool even in July — a fleece or light jacket is worn every evening regardless of the daytime temperature. Pack at least one heavier layer (down jacket or fleece) for evenings on the deck or unexpected cold snaps.
Sunscreen (SPF 50+) and UV-blocking sunglasses are essential — UV exposure increases significantly at 8,000+ feet. A rain jacket or packable waterproof shell is necessary for afternoon thunderstorms, which occur on most summer afternoons. Hiking boots with ankle support are worth packing even for short walks.
Mosquito repellent is useful near the lake and river meadows in early summer (June and early July). Bug pressure decreases significantly by August.
Winter Packing List (November–March)
Winter in Grand Lake requires serious cold-weather gear. Temperatures regularly drop below 0°F at night. Pack insulated snow pants (waterproof), a down parka or insulated jacket, wool or synthetic base layers, waterproof gloves, warm hat, and balaclava face protection for snowmobile rides.
Waterproof boots are essential — standard hiking boots are not warm enough for extended time outdoors in winter at Grand Lake's elevation. Pack wool or synthetic socks (not cotton). Hand warmers are always a useful addition for cold days.
The cabins are fully heated and stocked — bring outdoor gear for time outside; the interior is comfortable year-round.
What the Cabin Provides
All Grand Lake Cabins properties include fully equipped kitchens (pots, pans, dishes, utensils, coffee maker, and basic cooking supplies), linens, towels, paper products, and basic cleaning supplies. You don't need to pack any of these.
The game rooms are stocked with equipment. The hot tubs are operational and ready on arrival. High-speed internet is available on all devices — no need for cellular hot spots.
The main thing to bring is your outdoor gear and food. Plan a grocery run on arrival — Grand Lake has a grocery store and Granby (15 minutes) has more selection.
