Where to Shop Near Grand Lake

Grand Lake Village has a grocery store that carries staples, basics, and a reasonable selection of fresh produce and meats. For larger groups or longer stays, Granby — approximately 15 minutes south on Highway 34 — has larger grocery stores with fuller selection.

The closest city-level grocery shopping is in Granby or Kremmling. Plan your major grocery run on arrival day — it saves multiple return trips during your stay and lets you stock the cabin fully before settling in.

What to Buy vs. What to Bring

Items worth bringing from home or buying before the drive: specialty items your group needs (specific dietary restrictions, preferred brands), a good quantity of alcohol (mountain town pricing can be higher), and any items you're confident you'll need daily.

Items easily purchased locally: basic groceries, fresh produce, meat, dairy, bread, snacks, coffee, and cleaning supplies. The cabin provides all cooking equipment, basic spices, oil, and paper products.

For groups of 12 to 16, budget for a meaningful grocery run — cooking at the cabin even for some meals saves significantly versus eating out for every meal.

Meal Planning for Large Groups

Designate one or two people as the primary grocery planners before the trip. Create a shared document with a meal plan — which nights cooking at the cabin, which going to the village, and who is responsible for each meal. This prevents the daily 'what do we eat?' problem for a large group.

Trail lunch supplies (sandwich materials, snacks, water bottles) are worth buying in bulk at Granby on arrival day — they're essential for active days in RMNP and eliminate lunchtime logistics on hiking days.
