Thornton to Grand Lake
From Thornton in the north Denver suburbs, head south on I-25 to I-70 west, then US-40 north through Winter Park and Granby to Grand Lake — approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours depending on I-70 conditions. The US-36 to Estes Park and RMNP route is also available when Trail Ridge Road is open (late May through mid-October).
Thornton's north Denver position means the US-36 through Boulder and Estes Park route can be faster in summer — connecting through RMNP is approximately 90 minutes and passes through the park, adding scenery to the approach.

North Metro to Grand County
From Thornton the practical choice is south and west to I-70, then the standard run to Empire and north on US-40 over Berthoud Pass. North-metro groups sometimes look at approaching through Estes Park instead, which works in summer but not in winter — Trail Ridge Road closes for the season and cannot be used as a route.
The US-40 approach is the year-round one. It is maintained through the winter, though Berthoud Pass itself does close at times for storms and avalanche control.
Choosing Between the Four
The Lakeview Lodge and the Pickleball Lodge both sleep 16 but suit different groups. The Lakeview is the view property — eight-foot windows over two lakes and Mt. Baldy, a billiard loft, Sonos sound and covered outdoor dining for the full group. The Pickleball is the active one, with the only private cabin pickleball court in town.
The Lakeside Cabin sleeps 12 with a deck fire pit and porch swing above Shadow Mountain Lake, and the Mid-Mod Cabin sleeps 11 in a remodelled 1972 midcentury modern house.

The West Entrance
Every property is about five minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park's western entrance. North-metro groups accustomed to entering at Estes Park generally find the west side considerably calmer — the eastern entrances take the bulk of the park's visitors, and summer weekends show it.
The Kawuneeche Valley begins just inside, following the headwaters of the Colorado River, with moose and elk regularly visible around dawn and dusk. Trail Ridge Road climbs from there during the months it is open.
Dogs Welcome at All Four
Every property takes dogs, up to two per stay, with a dog fee applying per stay. The local rule worth knowing is that the national park does not allow dogs on its trails, while the surrounding Arapaho National Recreation Area and national forest land is much more relaxed about them.
Each cabin has deck and outdoor space, and the neighbourhoods around them are quiet and low-traffic, which makes the evening walk straightforward without getting back in the car.
