Getting from the Airport to the Cabin
Denver International to Grand Lake is about two hours by road: west on I-70, off at Empire, then US-40 north over Berthoud Pass and down through Winter Park and Granby.
Rental vehicles are the practical constraint for Texas groups — a party of a dozen with luggage generally needs more capacity than the initial booking allowed for. In winter, specify 4WD or AWD rather than taking the default.
Long Enough to Be Worth the Flight
Groups flying from South Texas rarely come for two nights. Four to seven is the usual range, which gives room for a full national park day, a day on or near the water, and at least one day where nobody gets in a car.

Altitude and the First Day

Hydrate hard, keep the first evening light, and leave the ambitious plans until you have slept at elevation once. Most groups find the second day feels entirely different from the first.
