Winter Park Resort
Winter Park Resort is one of Colorado's oldest and largest ski areas, located approximately 45 minutes from Grand Lake via Highway 34 south and Highway 40 east. The resort is divided into multiple terrain areas — Winter Park Mountain, Mary Jane, Vasquez Ridge, and others — covering a wide range from beginner to expert terrain. Mary Jane is particularly well-known for challenging mogul and tree skiing.
Combining Skiing and Grand Lake
Using Grand Lake as a ski base has one significant advantage: the cabin experience. Instead of a ski resort hotel or a condo in Winter Park, your group stays in a luxury private cabin on Shadow Mountain Lake with a hot tub, game room, and full kitchen — and drives 45 minutes to ski.
For groups where skiing isn't the only priority — and for those who also want snowmobiling, ice fishing, or RMNP exploration — Grand Lake provides a more complete winter experience than a Winter Park ski-focused trip.

The drive from Grand Lake to Winter Park via Granby is approximately 45 minutes in normal winter conditions. Allow extra time in heavy snowfall. A 4WD or AWD vehicle is strongly recommended.
